Ways You Can Serve

Serving is one of the many ways we grow in faith, build community, and share Christ’s love with others. At Hillside United Methodist Church, there are meaningful opportunities to serve within our church, in our city, and in the world. Whether you enjoy welcoming others, preparing meals, helping with hands-on outreach, or supporting missions through prayer and service, there is a place for you here.

In Our Church

Serve the Hillside family through hospitality, care ministries, meal support, fellowship gatherings, and other opportunities that help people feel welcomed, supported, and connected.

In Our City

Share God’s love in practical ways through local outreach, compassionate care, service projects, and ministries that meet real needs in the Waco community.

In The World

Support missions beyond our walls through prayer, giving, hands-on mission opportunities, and partnerships that help spread hope, dignity, and the Good News.

Hospitality & Care Ministries

Some of the most meaningful ministry happens through simple acts of kindness, welcome, and care. These opportunities help us serve one another and create a warm, loving church home.

Sunday Brunch Meals

Every Sunday after worship, we head to the Fellowship Hall for a laid-back brunch made by Hillside’s best home cooks. It’s a chance to grab a good meal, relax, laugh a little, and get to know the people sitting around you in church. Whether you’re brand-new or you’ve been coming for years, pull up a chair — we’d love to share food and conversation with you.

Emergency Care Meals

When someone in our church family is facing illness, recovery, grief, or another difficult season, providing a meal can be a simple but powerful act of care. This ministry helps support individuals and families with comfort, encouragement, and practical help when it is needed most.

Funeral Food

Providing food for funeral receptions is a caring way to support families during times of loss. This ministry offers comfort and hospitality by helping prepare or provide food for gatherings that allow loved ones to be together, remember, and receive support from their church family.

Missions & Outreach

Hillside seeks to share Christ’s love not only within the church, but also in the community and beyond. These ministries give us opportunities to serve with compassion, consistency, and hope.

Viking Inn Outreach

Our Viking Inn Outreach is a hands-on ministry dedicated to building relationships and meeting practical needs among the residents of the Viking Inn, a small motel community in Waco. Each fourth weekend, our team meets at Hillside UMC, gathers supplies, and caravans to Viking Inn, where we set up an outdoor pantry and share hymns, prayer, conversation, communion, and individually sized food and personal care items. Through the faithful support of our congregation — donations, volunteers, musicians, and prayer — we offer a consistent presence of care, dignity, and the Good News to our neighbors.

How You Can Help
  • Food Needs: Individually packaged snacks, bottled water, easy-to-distribute food items, and other needed pantry supplies.
  • Volunteer Needs: Helping gather and organize supplies, serve on outreach weekends, greet residents, pray, sing, and assist with setup and cleanup.
  • Equipment Needs: Tables, bins, outdoor setup supplies, transportation help, and other practical items used during outreach events.
