Everything You Need to Know Before Your First Visit
We want your visit to Hillside United Methodist Church to feel comfortable, welcoming, and meaningful. Here are answers to some of the questions first-time guests often ask. If you do not see what you need, we would be glad to help you.
Where is Hillside located?
Hillside United Methodist Church is located at 1201 W Highway 6 in Waco, Texas. We are conveniently situated and easy to find. If you need directions or have any questions before your visit, please don’t hesitate to contact us—we’d be happy to help!
When should I arrive?
We suggest arriving a few minutes early so you have time to park, receive a bulletin, and choose a seat. If you arrive late, just come on in — we will be happy to have you.
Where do I go when I arrive?
The main entrance faces Highway 6. A greeter will be at the front door to welcome you, provide a bulletin, and answer any questions you may have.
What should I wear?
Almost anything is fine. Some people come in shorts and t-shirts or casual clothes, while others wear professional casual attire. Please dress in whatever way feels comfortable for you.
Do you have programming for children? What ages?
Our children's ministry provides a safe, nurturing, and secure environment for young children, allowing parents to focus on, participate in, and be spiritually nourished by worship services.
- Our nursery serves children ages 0–4.
- There is a cry room in the back of the sanctuary if you are more comfortable keeping your infant with you during worship.
- On the 4th Sunday of each month, we have a Children's Moment during the service followed by Children's Church in the classroom.
- Everyone at Hillside UMC who works with children has been MinistrySafe certified.
What if I need help with mobility, sight, or hearing?
We want everyone to feel comfortable and supported while visiting Hillside.
- Special signs mark accessible parking and parking for first-time guests.
- There is a covered portico on the right side of the main entrance as you face the church, allowing for unloading and a flat entry into the building.
- There is also a ramp at the front of the church.
- Real-time translation is usually available on the TV screen at the front right side of the sanctuary. Please sit where the screen is easily visible so you can follow along comfortably.
- If you need an assistive hearing device, please speak with one of the audio-visual team members in the sound booth, located to your left upon entering the sanctuary.
If there is communion, am I welcome?
Yes. The communion table is the Lord’s table and is open to all. Communion is regularly offered on the first Sunday of each month.
I am de-churched because of a past personal mistake. Am I still welcome?
Yes. Everyone makes mistakes in life, including each of us. You are welcome here, and we would be glad to have you become part of this community.
What happens after church?
Most Sundays, we share a free meal together following the worship service, and everyone is welcome. We hope you will feel comfortable joining us so we can get to know you.
We also understand that some people prefer to remain more anonymous when visiting a new church for the first time. That is perfectly fine too. We look forward to meeting you whenever you are ready.
Is there pressure to give?
No. We are simply glad you are here. Giving is a personal choice. An offering plate is passed during the service, but it is perfectly fine to pass the plate along or indicate to the usher that you are not giving financially.
What time does worship begin?
Currently our worship begins at 10:00 am.
